Progressive Supranuclear Palsy

PSP. This is what my grandfather suffers from. After misdiagnoses of Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, and then Alzheimer's again. I just returned from a visit with my family in WNY, and the effect on him is incredible, just since Christmas. His eyes are permanently wide and motionless, and his movements slow, jerky and labored.

Then the day after we left, he broke his rib falling at the dining room table. I can't even express how hard it is to watch what was once my witty, loud and charasmatic grandpa decline into this childlike state. He frightens his great-granddaughter. She'll never know the man that used to belt "How Great Thou Art" through the house, occasionally changing the lyrics to something silly. "I hear the rolling thunder!" over and over.

I don't think he does that anymore. But thank goodness for pinochle.

Whoops. Did it again.

Well, it's been a year. And while much has changed, much has not. I still have a ton of work to do before school starts in September. This time, however, I should be finishing the Masters degree. Provided all stars align and I pass exams, that is.

Beanie's heart sorted itself out. We weaned her from the meds starting when she was 9 months. We just let her grow out of the dosage. By the time she turned one, we stopped giving it to her. And then a week later, the cardiologist tested her and ran another Holter monitor. She was perfect.

She started walking on her birthday. And now that she's 18 months old, she climbs, runs, and chases the dog like a crazy lady. Here's the evidence of that:

I'll be blogging more soon, I promise!
